Be An Inspiration For Change & Volunteer With Us

DSC08457.JPG

Our core mission revolves around CONSERVATION, EDUCATION & SUPPORT, aimed at fostering a sustainable community in Landak and Bukit Lawang. Our goal is to create an environment where people, nature, and wildlife coexist harmoniously, ensuring their well-being and safety.

Our strategy involves a two-pronged approach. Firstly, we work towards safeguarding the farming community and their livelihoods by implementing innovative selective tree planting techniques and providing support for loss of earnings caused by orangutans and other wildlife. Additionally, we offer support and education where necessary.

Secondly, we strive to establish larger and safer wildlife corridors, benefitting all wildlife, including orangutans. These corridors facilitate safe passage for animals while deterring them from encroaching on farmland. Join us in our efforts to protect and preserve the natural balance of our environment.

The proceeds from our tours directly support our NGO's conservation efforts. We encourage guests to actively participate in these initiatives by offering combination packages of treks and volunteer opportunities.

Eco-Conservation Bukit Lawang: Empowering Local Farmers and fighting human-wildlife conflict

No day is the same with us:

We are dedicated to supporting local farmers by offering them diverse employment opportunities. By providing these roles, we offer an alternative to palm oil plantation work, which is often seen as a last resort. As a volunteer, you will engage in a variety of tasks, gaining an authentic understanding of the daily lives of North Sumatran farmers.

Your involvement not only supports sustainable practices but also helps foster a stronger, more resilient community.

Volunteer Tasks

As a volunteer, you will have the chance to immerse yourself in numerous activities, each designed to provide a meaningful experience while contributing to our conservation efforts. Some of the key opportunities include:

  • Wild Orangutan Monitoring: Assist in tracking and observing wild orangutans, contributing to vital conservation data.

  • Plant Nursery Maintenance: Help maintain our plant nursery, supporting reforestation and habitat restoration efforts.

  • School Visits: Participate in educational visits to local schools, promoting environmental awareness among young students.

  • Community Education: Engage with local communities to share knowledge on sustainable farming, conservation practices and English teaching.

  • Learning Traditional Techniques: Experience traditional farming methods and cultural practices first hand.

  • Arts & Crafts: Contribute to community arts and crafts projects, preserving cultural heritage, supporting local artisans and creating an alternative income for the locals.

  • Tree Planting: Take part in tree planting initiatives to help restore and expand forested areas, to uplift farmers livelihoods and to support our own sustainable living.

  • Farming Duties: Work alongside local farmers in their daily tasks, gaining practical agricultural skills.

  • Fundraising: Assist in fundraising efforts to support our various projects and initiatives.

  • Your Own Projects: Bring your creativity and ideas to life by initiating personal projects that leave a lasting impact.
